Buffet Libre opens with a version of the Evil Dead demon cam. An entity hovers, but not through the foggy woods, instead through a dimly lit international market. On a second pass, a woman sweeping takes a swipe at the camera, and the perspective cuts into focus. We’ve been riding along with a pigeon, not a malevolent supernatural force. It’s a sly, fun fake-out and a good introduction to the film’s irreverent, sometimes absurd tone, and its ability to undercut expectations….
